Creative Music Making Workshop Video
Making music is something everyone can do regardless of age or formal
music training. It is an innate need most of us have but rarely pursue its
satisfaction. The reasons are usually the fact that most people are
convinced they are not musical. This, of course, is nonsense.
Creative Music Making workshops are an ideal platform for group
music making and exploration. The workshop leader doesn’t teach
music but rather extracts musical material from the participants and
then only aids them in the composing a piece of music, if that be the
goal. Improvisation is another attractive side of these workshops.
The workshops can be adapted to any age (children to elderly), musical
level (no training to professional musician), cultural background etc.
The duration depends on the overall goal of the workshops (closed
sessions, recordings, performances) and the practical issues involved.
Instruments are always welcome but music can also be made vocally
and using body percussion.
Creative Music Making is intended to be a workshop for children,
held by Nikola Tošić, music workshop creator and leader and musician,
educated at the Music Academy in Den Hague. It is a project whose main goal will be the development and production of a series
of music workshops for everyone – regardless of their previous musical
knowledge. A mixture of different music forms, a creative process
which will be based on the experience of the participants. In the long
run, the concept should function very well not only with children, but
also as effective competence development for various professional
groups – in the cultural sphere as well as in healthcare and habilitation.

The process consists of: Warm Up (diff. music/physical/group) – Skill
Development (perhaps teach a small rhythm or melody to use as a
starting point) – Generating Material (participants work in groups on
different musical tasks) – Arranging and Rehearsing - Performance.
This is the basic process subject to change to fit the particular group
dynamic.
Participants are usually thrilled with the experience of diving into the
unknown and coming out with a song. Good fun, all in all.
Please, check out these recordings of various groups.
